PD 663: High-speed connection between P-NET clusters
It is common system design practice for I/O-devices from the PD 600 Series to be mounted in a number of convenient individual clusters. These can either be placed within the same control panel, or distributed throughout a number of control panels. If the clusters are housed within the same control panel, and the distance between them is short (less than 50 cm), they would normally be interconnected using Light-Link optical fibre. However, if the control panel is large, or the clusters are mounted in different control panels, a communication module must be mounted in each cluster. This would normally be a PD 661 Simple P-NET Interface. This device makes it possible to distribute the clusters using a cable with a total length of up to 1200 m, operating at the standard P-NET speed (76.8 kbits/s).
However, in time critical machine control applications, the communication speed within a cluster is often set to 230.4 kbits/s, which is possible when using P-NET Light-Link. By using the newly developed PD 663 Triple Speed Simple P-NET Interface, it is now possible to use this speed of communication on RS485 as well, as long as the total cable run is less than 50 meters.
